Graduate School of Design and Architecture, Nagoya City University
We are the Music Creation & Sound Design Lab led by Keita Matsumiya at the Graduate School of Design and Architecture, Nagoya City University.
Our laboratory focuses on music creation as a central practice, exploring the relationship between music, science, and technology, as well as the sonic environment in contemporary society.
We conduct both research and creative production in artistic music, electroacoustic music, music for stage and visual media, and sound-based media art.
By integrating theoretical research with artistic practice, we investigate new methodologies of musical expression through composition techniques, sound analysis, electroacoustic technologies, interface design, and extended musical instruments.
The main research topics of the lab are as follows:
(1) Compositional theory based on Resonant Writing
(2) Composition techniques in electroacoustic and mixed music
(3) Hybrid instruments and re-resonance systems
(4) Real-time generative music and performance systems
(5) Embodied interfaces and extended musical expression
(6) Composition support using sound analysis and visualization
We welcome students who are interested in contemporary music, composition, electroacoustic music, sound art, programming, and media technology, and who are motivated to work on both theoretical research and creative production.
